Greenwood Riding for the Disabled
Exercise, Therapy & Fun
through Horse Riding
About Us
Greenwood Riding for the Disabled is a Registered Charity 1195708 (a Charitable Incorporated Organisation) that provides Exercise; Therapy; Fun through horse-riding for individuals with disabilities. All is achieved through qualified RDA Coaches assisted by a team of trained and experienced helpers.
We aim to make horse-riding available to children and young people, whatever their physical, sensory, or learning impairment and whatever their financial circumstances.
Sessions are held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. We are not a commercial riding school. We rely on donated income to make it all happen.
Location
We are based in rural North Nottinghamshire, close to the Royal and Ancient heart of Sherwood Forest, but convenient for local transport.
The remains of King John’s Palace can be seen from the farm. Eastfield is a privately owned working farm.
For safety reasons please visit by appointment only as arranged with the Charity Secretary: greenwoodrda@gmail.com
About Us
We are ALL Volunteers dedicated to improving the health and well-being of disabled children and young people through horse-riding.
Volunteer
Become one of our helping hands! Volunteers are essential to what we do. Spend time with our horses and ponies, help others and make a difference.
Our Aims
Exercise, Therapy, Fun through Horse-Riding for children and young people with disabilities, whatever their physical, sensory, or learning impairment.
It is the HORSE that makes the difference.
WHY? Exercise is essential for a healthy body and mind. Without it, well-being is damaged; muscles deteriorate; thought processes become dull and disengaged; growth is impeded. For some, horse-riding is the only form of exercise they can do.
HOW? Our VOLUNTEERS aim to change inevitable outcomes – with fresh air, exercise stimulated by the horse, incentive to think ahead by being in charge for a change – all whilst having FUN.
We involve PARENTS, who relish respite from daily stresses. They enjoy interaction with their child in a fun setting. Or if they prefer to sit and relax, we can offer that too.
A bonus is the opportunity to share experiences socially between parents. This can be enormously reassuring for peace of mind.
Our Values
We believe in the SOCIAL MODEL OF DISABILITY. This recognises an unequal relationship within society, where the needs of people with impairments are often not given enough consideration. This can result in social exclusion. As a result of the barriers faced by disabled children and young people, they may also experience other disadvantages. These can include poverty, illness, isolation, reduced access to leisure and friendship, and restricted opportunities.
We are serious about Safeguarding. All Volunteers are DBS checked to enhanced level and have access to regular refresher training courses.
Our Operational Policies
We Rely on Donations
Your kind support, together with the volunteers who help make it all possible, will transform a young person or adult whose life is limited by a disability. Because of you, they will get close to, ride and learn to love, one of our ponies or horses. Their life will be enriched!
